  • Officially moved home

I returned to New Quay last weekend and came back to the boat on Wednesday. I cleaned the flat and handed the keys back to the landlady and helped with some shop admin. Since getting back I have been doing some more of the electrics. I fixed the auto bilge pump which was not level, moved the radio to a better position and fixed the starter battery charging which was caused by a faulty wire. The weather was bad today but I hope to get the boat out down the river under motor this weekend. I am booked in deacons boatyard from the 31st for a week. I have my covid jab on the 2nd and hope I can sell the car quickly afterwards. I will then move to an anchorage and start doing some sailing.

I have spent the last three days stripping out old wires and identifying cables in preparation for the rewire. There are still lots of unidentified cables but I have gone as far as I dare without removing something needed. The next step is starting to rebuild it all starting with the power in. I need to move the battery charger and install the inverter and solar system and start to build the nav station back panel. I want to convert the lift up map store to be a drawer and have to re-cover a headlining panel I have all the parts for those jobs but most of the 12v distribution will have to wait for more parts.

  • The Great Escape

As Wales has gone into lockdown for 17 days I have escaped to the boat to start working on the electrics. I spent all day today stripping the instruments and releasing cables from hundreds of cable ties to identify and remove unused cables and try to figure out where the cables go.

I have decided to replace the entire nav station back panel with a new board hinged at the bottom and further forward than the original. That way I can access the wiring behind if needed and the instruments will be more visible as I will be mounting them directly on the panel. I have plenty of headlining cloth so will cover the new board with that.

Its been strong winds and rain all day today, the wind speed is about 20 knots according to the instruments but I have seen the occasion gust up to 30.
